ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 6

HONORING AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF LULU HA‘AHEO AWAA (KA‘AHA‘AINA), PROUD KANAKA MAOLI, WIFE, MOTHER, GRANDMOTHER, GREAT-GRANDMOTHER, AUNTY, AND MEMBER OF MOKUʻĀINA A WAKINEKONA HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Ka‘aha‘aina (Awaa) was born December 26, 1941, in Wai‘anae, O‘ahu, Hawai‘i; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Ka‘aha‘aina (Awaa), proud daughter of Samuel Mapu Ka’aha’aina and Esther Kapua Poe; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Ka‘aha‘aina (Awaa) is the granddaughter of Solomon Bismark Ka‘aha‘aina and Lydia Naluahi Komomua; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Ka‘aha‘aina graduated from Wai‘anae High School; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Ka‘aha‘aina met the love of her life and married Samuel Kamuela Awaa from Kohala, Hawai‘i; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Awaa and her husband Samuel Kamuela Awaa moved to Lakewood, Washington; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Awaa’s love for her Hawaiian culture she participated in the Hawaiian Way of Life throughout the Hawaiian Community in the great Pacific Northwest; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Awaa was a member of the Hawai‘i 50th Club in Tacoma, Washington, the Guam Club, member of From the Big Island “FBI” Catering ‘Ohana, and other organizations that supported to perpetuating the Hawaiian culture; and

WHEREAS, On July 8, 2006, Lulu Ha‘aheo Awaa joined and became a member of Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club and was sworn in as one of the board of trustees; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha‘aheo Awaa passed away on January 23, 2020, in her home in Lakewood, Washington; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha’aheo Awaa is preceded in death by her husband Samuel Kamuela Awaa and daughter Marvaleen Awaa; and

WHEREAS, Lulu Ha’aheo Awaa is survived by daughters, Danette Stonebraker and Salome Awaa, Grandchidren Robert S. Stonbeaker & Cassandra Gomez, Great-Grand- Children Gavin, Israel, and Aryana Gomez, sisters: Emily L. Cullen (d), Elizabeth P. Mikasobe, Ruth N. Onekea, Audrey L. Ka‘aha‘aina (d), Geneviev P. Berry. Brothers: Samuel M. Ka‘aha‘aina Jr.(d), George S. Ka‘aha‘aina (d), David K Ka‘aha‘aina, Sr., Matthew K Ka‘aha‘aina Sr., Michael K. Ka‘aha‘aina (d), Albert K. Ka‘aha‘aina and many nieces and nephews.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention in held online, in the malama of Makali`i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, honoring and celebrating the life of Lulu Ha’aheo Awaa (Ka’aha’aina), proud kanaka maoli, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunty, and member of Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a moment of silence be held by the delegates in honor of Lulu Ha’aheo Awaa (Ka’aha’aina) at this Convention; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Benjamin K. Baker, Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club, daughter Danette Stonebraker, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
