A RESOLUTION
NO. 2020 – 45
RECOGNIZING TRUSTEE COLETTE Y. MACHADO FOR SERVICE TO OUR LĀHUI AND EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR HER LEADERSHIP AND LONG TENURE ON THE OFFICE OF HAWAIIAN AFFAIRS BOARD OF TRUSTEES
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado retires this month from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees after serving twenty-five years on the board as the trustee from Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i; and
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado was first elected to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees in 1996, and currently serves as the chairperson of the board; and
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado, in addition to her tenure at the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, has a long track record of public service that includes terms on Moloka‘i Island Burial Council, Hawaiian Homes Commission, State Land Use Commission, and Kaho‘olawe Island Reserve Commission; and
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado’s roots are in grassroots movements and community organizing, and she has been active throughout her life in organizations at the forefront of protecting our land and cultural resources, including Protect Kaho‘olawe ‘Ohana Hui Alaloa Inc., Mālama Mana‘e, Ka Leo O Mana‘e, Kāko‘o Kawela, Mālama Moloka‘i, Ka ʻOhana O Kalaupapa, and Molokaʻi Land Trust; and
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado is a proud member of the Ho‘olehua Hawaiian Civic Club and is a delegate for her club at the annual conventions of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and
WHEREAS, Trustee Colette Y. Machado is an accomplished and respected leader, a knowledgeable resource, a respected and sought-after mentor, and the bearer of hope for the future of the Native Hawaiian community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, recognizing Trustee Colette Y. Machado for service to our lāhui and expressing gratitude for her leadership and long tenure on the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Board of Trustees; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs is grateful for work Trustee Colette Y. Machado has done on behalf and for the lāhui, and wishes her a wonderful retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Trustee Colette Y. Machado, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.
The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
