ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 3

CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF JOHN LAWRENCE KUIEE, PROUD HAWAIIAN AND RETIRED STAFF SERGEANT OF THE UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, VFW MEMBER OF THE BENNETT TRI-VALLEY POST 8449, BENNETT, COLORADO, MEMBER OF STRASBURG AMERICAN LEGION JESS-TAICH POST 183, AND MEMBER OF MOKUʻĀINA A WAKINEKONA HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB

WHEREAS, John Lawrence Kuiee was born January 28, 1938, in Newport, Rhode Island; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee came from a family that has a strong military heritage with his father serving during WWII; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee joined the U.S Marine Corps in 1956; and

WHEREAS, SSgt. John L. Kuiee served along with six of his brothers all served in Korea, Okinawa, and Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, SSgt. John L. Kuiee later served with the USMC 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Battalion Force Recon, Quang Tri Province in 1969; and

WHEREAS, SSgt. John L. Kuiee served as an Engineer Equipment Specialists as well as an Infantry Unit Leader and expert Rifleman earning his Pistol Sharpshooter as well as Rifle Expert Badges; and

WHEREAS, upon returning to the U.S., SSgt. John L. Kuiee served in Colorado as a Training Supervisor with the USMC Reserve Training Center; and

WHEREAS, after 20 years and six months of Service, assigned to numerous Marine Units, SSgt. John L. Kuiee retired from the USMC at Camp Pendleton, CA.; and

WHEREAS, Retired SSgt John L. Kuiee settled down with his family in Colorado; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee worked for the City of Aurora and then at the Federal Military Pay Center at Lowry Air Force Base; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee joined the VFW and became a member at Post 3631 in Aurora until transferring to Bennett Tri-Valley VFW Post 8449; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee served as a Trustee, Post Chaplin, Post Quartermaster and Commander of Tri-Valley VFW Post 8449 from July 2014 until 2017; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee was also a member of the Strasburg American Legion, Jess Yaich Post 183, serving as Post Chaplin and a member of the Joint Honor Guard Team; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee became a member of Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club on December 9, 2010; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee passed away on November 20, 2019, in Bennett, Colorado with his family by his side, plus hundreds of friends praying for a true patriot; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee will be missed by his family and countless friends and Military Fraternal Comrades who knew him to be a Special Comrade in Arms; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee lived to assist his fellow military veterans in any way he could, where he is missed by his friends; and

WHEREAS, John L. Kuiee has left a huge hole in the hearts of his family, his brothers, his Air Force buddies who are looking forward to walking the streets of Heaven with John and finally with John’s permission, until we meet again, Simper Fi Marine.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention in held online, in the malama of Makali`i and the rising of ʻ ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, celebrating the life of John Lawrence Kuiee, proud Hawaiian and retired Staff Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps, VFW member of the Bennett Tri-Valley Post 8449, Bennett, Colorado, member of Strasburg American Legion Jess-Taich Post 183, and member of Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a moment of silence be held by the delegates in honor of John Lawrence Kuiee at this Convention; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Benjamin K. Baker Mokuʻāina A Wakinekona Hawaiian Civic Club, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
