ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 22

REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF EMERY GORDON KAIKIKALANI-KUAKAHAʻEO HENDERSON, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB OF HONOLULU (1983-1984) AND SOCIAL WORKER WITH THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES OF THE STATE OF HAWAII

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was born January 5, 1947; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was a graduate of the Kamehameha School for Boys, class of 1965; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson attended the United States Army Officers’ Candidate School and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant during the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was a beloved coach for many years with the Aiea Little League, Babe Ruth League and various ILH teams; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was a social worker with the Child Protective Services for the State of Hawaii where he served the community for 35 years; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was past President of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu from 1983 – 1984; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson was passionate about his work and garnered the deepest and utmost respect of all those he came into contact with; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dana Lau; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson is survived by his sons Tanner (Michelle) and Talon (Sandi) and daughter Tatum; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson is survived by his grandsons Connor, Cross, Creed, and Hopper; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson is survived by siblings Okanani (Eric) Yamauchi, Rannie (Stephanie) Henderson, Samuel (Nalani) Henderson, Bailey-Lei McKee (Ronnie), and sister-in-law Nancy (Benjamin, deceased) Henderson; and

WHEREAS, Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson passed away on Saturday April 4, 2020; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, remembering the life of Emery Gordon Kaikikalani-Kuakahaʻeo Henderson, former president of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Honolulu (1983-1984) and social worker with the Child Protective Services of the state of Hawaii; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a moment of silence be held by the delegates in honor of Emery Gordon Kaikikalanikuakahaʻeo Henderson at the convention; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to his wife of 53 years, Dana Lau, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
