ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION 

NO. 2020 – 17

REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF REBECCA LEIMOMIOKALANI MAUHILI

WHEREAS, Rebecca Leimomiokalani Mauhili, known to most as simply “Momi” was born on July 9, 1939, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi to Dionicio and Rebecca Bahilot; and

WHEREAS, Momi had three brothers and one hānai sister; and

WHEREAS, Momi attended various schools in Hilo and Honolulu and graduated from Hilo High School in 1957; and

WHEREAS, Momi earned her degree in Sociology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo; and

WHEREAS, Momi retired from Hilo Medical Center as a Medical Social Worker; and

WHEREAS, between Momi and her deceased husband, Clarence Mauhili, they had 10 children, one hānai daughter, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Momi is survived by her lifetime companion, Ernest Thomas; and

WHEREAS, Momi was an active member of the 3 Days and 3 Nights Study Hall, the Hilo Lions Club, Kamehameha Alumni Choir, the Hawaiian Bowling Club and the Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupāhoehoe; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupāhoehoe, Momi served in several capacities, including Fundraising Chairperson, and the Scholarship Committee Chairperson; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Hilo Lions Club, Momi served as their secretary nine times, as their president two times, once holding the office of president and secretary simultaneously, four times as membership chair, once their treasurer, and was their unofficial historian receiving many awards for her service as a Lion and Lioness.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, remembering the life of Rebecca Leimomiokalani Mauhili; and 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupāhoehoe, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
