ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

No. 2019 -27

CELEBRATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LAS VEGAS HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB

WHEREAS, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club was established as a non-profit organization July 1, 1989, in Clark County, Nevada with 25 Native Hawaiians living in southern Nevada; and

WHEREAS, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club was chartered by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, on July 28, 1989; and

WHEREAS, together with ‘Ahahui ‘o Lili‘iuokalani Hawaiian Civic Club, ‘Āinahau o Kaleponi Hawaiian Civic Club, Hui Hawai‘i ‘o Utah, and Nā Keiki ‘o Hawai‘i, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club supported the formation of the Mainland Council of Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs with jurisdiction of continental Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and

WHEREAS, in November 1989, at its 30th Annual Convention held at the Pacific Beach Hotel in Waikīkī, the Association of Hawaiian Civic Club formally charted the Mainland Council of Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and

WHEREAS, being one of the oldest and most established Hawaiian organizations in Nevada, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club is dedicated to uphold good leadership and fellowship through community service and civic duty; and

WHEREAS, ever keeping with its motto: “Kūlia E Loa‘a Ka Na‘auao” (Strive to Obtain Wisdom), the members of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club have awarded over $77,500 in scholarship monies to students of Clark County School District, Adult Education Programs as well as Community Based Organizations upholding the ideals of good education for the betterment of all society; and

WHEREAS, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club will celebrate its 29th Ho‘olaule‘a in 2020; and

WHEREAS, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic commends the leadership of Nā Pelekikena who have steered the club over these past 30 years: Wayne Kaho‘onei Panoke, Herbie Watson, Art Wooters, Pauline Clark, Oni Onekea, Jeff Pagan, Teri Keli‘iheleua, Helene Pierce, Lehua Vincent, Charles Herring, Tamar Hoapili, Vincent ‘Iokimo Souza, Tieri Pa‘ahana Bissen, and Dorinda Puanani Keola Burnet; and

WHEREAS, acknowledging the 2019 Officers of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club: Pelekikena Dorinda Burnet; Hope Pelekikena ‘Elua Larry Gove; Kakou ‘Ōlelo Ho‘opa‘a Patrick Filbert; Pu‘ukū Charlene Gove; Pelekikena Iho Nei Tieri Pa’ahana Bissen; Board of Directors: Lee Burnet, Nate Makaiwi, Joseph Serrao and Maggie Perry; and Mainland Council Koho Mua Gail Wright.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 60th Annual Convention in Lahaina, Maui, in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau, this 16th day of November 2019, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club; Nā Lei Makalapua (Mainland Council); the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i; the Governor of the State of Nevada; the Mayors of Las Vegas, Henderson and North Las Vegas; President of the State Senate; Speaker of the State House of Representatives; Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs; Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs; Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs; Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islanders National Committee, and Chair of the Clark County Asian American Pacific Islanders Community Commission, and all county mayors of the State of Hawai‘i.

The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau on the 16th day of November 2019, at the 60th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Lahaina, Maui.
