ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS
A RESOLUTION
No. 2019 -22
FONDLY REMEMBERING PRINCESS CAROLYN WILLISON KAWĀNANAKOA
WHEREAS, Princess Carolyn Kawānanakoa was born on November 10, 1933, to Mary Francis and Philip Clemens Wilson; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol moved to Hawai‘i in 1952 to pursue a career in nursing and attended nursing school at Queen’s Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol married Prince Edward Keli‘iahonui Kawānanakoa, the grandnephew of Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Pi‘ikoi in August 1960; and
WHEREAS, Prince Edward and Princess Carol Kawānanakoa’s marriage produced two sons: Past President of Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club, Prince Quentin Kūhiō Kawānanakoa, and his brother, Prince Pi‘ikoi Andrew Kawānanakoa; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol was also survived by her daughter, Young Elena Branch; sons, Travis Anthony Branch and Corey Douglas Branch; and 16 grandchildren and many great- grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol became a member of and participated in many of the events of the Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club and supported its many efforts until she moved to Hawai‘i island; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol’s grace, demeanor and aloha have contributed greatly to the betterment of Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club and the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs; and
WHEREAS, Princess Carol was also a member of the Friends of ‘Iolani Palace and the Hale O Nā Ali‘i O Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, on May 11, 2019, at the age of 85, the most beloved Princess Carolyn Willison Kawānanakoa transitioned from this life to our ancestors’ realm; and
WHEREAS, with profound sorrow, the Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club records the passing its dear member.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 60th Annual Convention in Lahaina, Maui, in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau, this 16th day of November 2019, fondly remembering Princess Carolyn Willison Kawānanakoa; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this resolution be transmitted to Prince Quentin Kūhiō Kawānanakoa, Prince Pi‘ikoi Andrew Kawānanakoa, Young Elena Branch, Travis Anthony and Cory Douglas Branch, Hale O Nā Ali‘i O Hawai‘i, Friends of ‘Iolani Palace, the Prince Kūhiō Hawaiian Civic Club, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House of Representatives subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all county mayors.
The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau on the 16th day of November 2019, at the 60th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Lahaina, Maui.
