ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

No. 2019 – 12

REMEMBERING EDNA HUAPALA BUSH ELLIS

WHEREAS, Edna Huapala Bush Ellis was born in Honolulu on February 17, 1926, to Edward and Mary Bush, and was preceded in death by husband Douglas (Pops) Kahalepuna Ellis, Sr., whom she married on March 22, 1941; and

WHEREAS, Aunty Edna worked for many years in the show department of McInerny department store as well as various jobs at restaurants including Trader Vic’s, Tropics, and at the Princess Ka‘iulani Hotel; and

WHEREAS, Aunty Edna, during her retirement tried her hand at real estate and focused on Hawai‘i Island projects and dabbled at genealogy which later became a passion as she was researching her father’s ancestry; and

WHEREAS, Aunty Edna participated in the Kupuna Program of the State of Hawai‘i Department of Education Hawaiian Studies Program at Prince Jonah Kūhiō Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Aunty Edna was a twenty-three year member of the Waikiki Elks Lodge 16, her first love and second home where she participated in the Emblem Club, Ladies of the Elks, Drug Awareness Committee and the Wednesday Hawaiian singers group; and

WHEREAS, Aunty Edna was also a faithful member of Waikīkī Hawaiian Civic Club and faithfully represented the club at Ali‘i Sunday Services at Kawaiaha‘o Church.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 60th Annual Convention in Lahaina, Maui, in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau, this 16th day of November 2019, remembering Edna Huapala Bush Ellis; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in her memory, the members share a moment of silence in her honor at the annual convention; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Waikiki Elks Lodge 616, Waikīkī Hawaiian Civic Club, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau on the 16th day of November 2019, at the 60th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Lahaina, Maui.
