A RESOLUTION
No. 2017 – 15
REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF ISAAC K. KELIIPIO III, MEMBER OF KE ALI‘I DAVID LA‘AMEA KALĀKAUA HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB OF WISCONSIN
WHEREAS, Isaac K. Keliipio III was born on April 1, 1930 in Hilo, Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Isaac was the son of Isaac Keliipio II and Katherine (O’Brien) Keliipio; and
WHEREAS, Isaac lived in Hawai‘i through his graduation from high school; and
WHEREAS, Isaac served in the U.S. Army; and
WHEREAS, Isaac married Jean Hatlevig in Winona, Minnesota on January 29, 1955; and
WHEREAS, Isaac was a gifted swimmer and taught swimming for many years; and
WHEREAS, Isaac taught lifesaving techniques and worked with the United States Navy, the American Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of America; and
WHEREAS, Isaac and Jean enjoyed hiking and swimming well into their sixties; and
WHEREAS, Isaac loved to spend time with his family; and
WHEREAS, Isaac’s children remember fondly listening to Hawaiian music every Sunday morning; and
WHEREAS, Isaac was passionate about giving blood, donating gallons in his lifetime; and
WHEREAS, Isaac was very active in the local United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) and made many friends through his work there; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, Isaac became a founding member of Ke Ali‘i David La‘amea Kalākaua Hawaiian Civic Club of Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Isaac K. Keliipio III passed away on October 12, 2017, at his home in Sturtevant, Wisconsin with his loving family around him; and
WHEREAS, Isaac is survived by two sons, Isaac Keliipio IV of Kenosha, and Robert Keliipio of Milwaukee; three daughters Nancy (Russ) Doers of Burlington, Marie Keliipio of Milwaukee, and Dawn (Robert) Schubring of New Berlin; and
WHEREAS, Isaac is further survived by 11 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, a brother Anthony (Sue) Keliipio of Oahu, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Isaac was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Jean in 2010, one sister Katherine, and two brothers William and Eugene; and
WHEREAS, a memorial service was held on October 19, 2017, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 58th Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington, in the malama of ʻIkuwā and the rising of Māhealani, this 4th day of November 2017, remembering the life of Isaac K. Keliipio III, member of Ke Ali‘i David La‘amea Kalākaua Hawaiian Civic Club of Wisconsin; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a moment of silence be held in honor of Isaac K. Keliipio III at this 58th Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs Annual Convention; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Sandra Cunningham (Pelekikena) and Isaac Keliipio IV of Ke Ali‘i David La‘amea Kalākaua Hawaiian Civic Club of Wisconsin, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources, & Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, all County Mayors.
The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of ʻIkuwā and the rising of Māhealani on the 4th day of November 2017, at the 58th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Seattle, Washington.
