A RESOLUTION
No. 2017 – 14
HONORING AND REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF DEAR KUPUNA AND LIFE MEMBER OF LAHAINA HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB MILDRED APIKAILA ‘ŌPŪNUI KAHAHANE, A TRUE TREASURE OF LAHAINA
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in his Infinite wisdom, has seen fit to call upon Himself our Life member, Mildred Apikaila ‘Ōpūnui Kahahane on May 4th, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Mildred Apikaila ‘Ōpūnui Kahahane, the mother of seven children, 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren loved her family very much as well as her Civic Club ʻohana, and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was the granddaughter and student of master Kumu Hula Rebecca Kauhai Likua ‘Ōpūnui who was a court dancer in the kingdom of Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was a member of Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club for more than 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was a recording secretary for the Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was a member of the Maui chapter of the Hale O Nā Ali‘i O Hawai‘i; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was the last living member of the Lahaina Chapter of the ‘Ahahui Ka‘ahumanu; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie worked for years as a volunteer at the Baldwin House in Lahaina, Maui; and
WHEREAS, Auntie Millie was a mānaleo (Native Speaker) of the Hawaiian language.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 58th Annual Convention in Seattle, Washington, in the malama of ʻIkuwā and the rising of Māhealani, this 4th day of November 2017, that it remembers the life of dear Kupuna and life member of Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club Mildred Apikaila ‘Ōpūnui Kahahane, a true treasure of Lahaina; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the family of Auntie Millie Kahahane, Lahaina Hawaiian Civic Club, The Maui Chapter of Hale O Nā Ali‘i O Hawai‘i, the Lahaina Restoration Foundation, the Ka‘anapali Beach Hotel, and the Lahainaluna School Archives.
The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of ʻIkuwā and the rising of Māhealani on the 4th day of November 2017, at the 58th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Seattle, Washington.
