ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 27

CELEBRATING THE EFFORTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE NINTH ISLAND AUNTIES COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION

WHEREAS, the community organization known as Ninth Island Aunties has served the Las Vegas neighborhoods since its founding in 2004 and has since grown to become a bigger organization; and

WHEREAS, the founder of Ninth Island Aunties, Cathi Minami, has led her team of volunteers to work tirelessly to take the lead in the Las Vegas community to not only coordinate food distribution to those in need, from homeless persons to teenagers at risk on the street, and also to families affected by economic hardship; and

WHEREAS, Ninth Island Aunties has partnered with a number of organizations in Las Vegas to garner food donations for recurring monthly meal creation, food supply distribution, and targeted events conducted during the various holidays each year such as making Easter baskets to distribute to a number of non-profit organizations, provide food boxes including turkeys and a number of other items to make dinners, to gathering Christmas toys, and supporting meals and food preparation; and

WHEREAS, Ninth Island Aunties has supported and adopted whole families in need, coordinating with Clark County School District Title 1 schools; and

WHEREAS, Ninth Island Aunties coordinated The Giving Project from 2015 to 2017, which provided the homeless and those in need, including teenagers at risk and local military families, with monthly meals and services; and

WHEREAS, in 2017, Ninth Island Aunties was recognized for their efforts by Las Vegas Channel 8 News, with their Acts of Kindness Award, and being nominated for, and receiving, the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award for continuing to provide support to those in need.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, celebrating the efforts and achievements of the Ninth Island Aunties community organization; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the founder of Ninth Island Aunties Cathi Minami, the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club, Na Lei Makalapua (Mainland Council), the Governor of the State of Nevada, President of the Nevada State Senate, Speaker of the Nevada State House of Representatives, Speaker of the Nevada State Assembly, Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islanders National Committee, Chair of the Clark County Asian American Pacific Islanders Community Commission, the Mayor of Las Vegas, the Mayor of Henderson, the Mayor of North Las Vegas, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors in the State of Hawai‘i.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
