ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 14

REMEMBERING BELOVED WIFE AND MOTHER, BLOSSOM “BLU” S.F. GAMIAO

WHEREAS, Blossom “Nana Blu” Gamiao was born to Marcelo Romero De La Cruz and Mercedes Villapania on August 13, 1948, in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi; and

WHEREAS, Blu married Lindsey Gamiao on November 9, 1974, and was the mother of two children, Shari-Ann Pi‘ilani and Linton Anthony, and the grandmother of three grandchildren, Alyssa-Cyre Pualeimomilaninamaka‘ala, Aric-Dane Pōhakupa‘alaniekapōmaika‘i, and Natalia Keona, and beloved caretaker for the family pet, Fluffy; and

WHEREAS, Blu Gamiao attended and graduated from Wallace Rider Farrington High School in 1966, then graduated from the Cannon School of Business, and then attended the University of Hawai‘i; and

WHEREAS, Blu was employed at the Bishop Museum from 1981 to 2008, in the Director’s Office; and

WHEREAS, Blu maintained the highest level of corporate excellence to the Directors she served; and

WHEREAS, Blu held corporate positions as Secretary to the Director, Administrative Assistant to the Director, Administrative Assistant for the President, Director & CEO, Corporate Administrative Officer and Assistant Secretary, and retired as Executive Assistant to the President, Director & CEO; and

WHEREAS, Blu through the Hawai‘i Jaycees continued to dedicate her life to serving communities in many leadership positions and projects over 30+ years; and

WHEREAS, Blu was awarded her Ambassadorship (#2609) which honors the highest leadership award given by the United States Jaycees; and

WHEREAS, Blu received her JCI Senatorship (#53542) which honors the highest leadership award given by the Jaycees International organization; and

WHEREAS, Blu was a member of several Organizations and Affiliations such as the President of Hawaii International Jaycees, Hawai‘i Jaycees State Training Programming Manager, Hawai‘i Jaycees State National Convention Coordinator; and

WHEREAS, Blu served as the Treasurer, President and Director for the HIJC Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Blu received the following awards of excellence: Clinton Davis Memorial Award-Top 3 USJCC National Onto Convention Chairmen, Seiji Horiuchi Memorial Award-Top Three USJCC Program Managers, USJCC Presidential Award -Top 10 State Chapter President; and

WHEREAS, Blu had a thirst for learning and preserving all things especially Hawaiian culture and history; and

WHEREAS, Blu personally collected and maintained an extensive collection of Hawaiian culture books, artifacts, and memorabilia as her lifelong hobby; and

WHEREAS, Ke Akua in His infinite wisdom called home his beloved daughter on May 22, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Blu was a life member of the Kuini Pi‘olani Hawaiian Civic Club; and

WHEREAS, in her capacity as a member of Kuini Pi‘olani Hawaiian Civic Club, Blu Gamiao also served as a member on the Association Hawaiian Civic Clubs’s Health and Human Services Committee; and

WHEREAS, Kupuna Blu Gamiao will be sorely missed, however her legacy as a kupuna, mother and grandmother will live long because of her excellence in the way she shared her love of knowledge.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, remembering beloved wife and mother Blossom “Blu” S.F. Gamiao; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Lindsey Gamiao, Shari-Ann Gamiao-Wilson, Linton Gamiao, The Bishop Museum, the Hawai‘i Jaycees, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
