A RESOLUTION
NO. 2020 – 9
HONORING THE LIFETIME OF MAMA KAHU DARLENE KAUPU FOR HER DEDICATION TO ALL HAWAI’I, HER SELFLESS SUPPORT OF KAHU KAUPU AND THEIR CHILDREN TO PERPETUATE TRADITIONS OF HAWAI‘I
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Darlene Kaupu was born 82 years ago in Gilman, Colorado; and
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Kaupu gave selflessly of herself so Kahu David Kaupu could lead faithfully wherever he was called to; and
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Kaupu became a mother to many children at Kamehameha Schools over the 33 years Kahu Kaupu lead their school faith services; and
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Kaupu supported her daughter, Helen Kaupu Kaowili, to lead the first modern Baibala project; and
WHEREAS, “Mama Kahu” affectionately known by many always had a smile and kind word no matter how many challenges she faced with her health; and
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Kaupu is the beloved lei of Kahu Kaupu as he organized his daily schedule to always be alongside to care for her needs, and
WHEREAS, Mama Kahu Darlene Kaupu will be dearly missed and there will be no one like her.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, honoring the lifetime of Mama Kahu Darlene Kaupu for her dedication to all Hawaiʻi, her selfless support of Kahu Kaupu, and their children to perpetuate the traditions of Hawaiʻi; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the family of the Late Mama Kahu Darlene Kaupu, the Kamehameha Schools, the Kuini Pi‘olani Hawaiian Civic Club, the Queen Julia Kapi’olani Hawaiian Civic Club, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.
The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
