ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

NO. 2020 – 15

REMEMBERING BELOVED WIFE AND MOTHER, REV. MARSHA ANN OCTAVIO CHUN

WHEREAS, Marsha was born on March 25, 1952, in Honolulu, Hawai‘i and was raised by her mother Elaine Octavio-Palafox and step-father Richard Palafox; and

WHEREAS, Marsha Chun married Riley Chun on June 27, 1981, and was the mother of son Bronson Chun, and the grandmother of her 4 grandchildren, Daysia H. Basillio Chun, Brynn K Basillio Chun, Laney N. Basillio Chun, and Logan K.K.Y. Chun; and

WHEREAS, Marsha Chun attended and graduated from Wallace Rider Farrington High School in 1970; and

WHEREAS, Marsha was employed at Duty Free Waikīkī from 1981 to 1985 and then employed at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center as a Secretary from 1985 to 2019; and

WHEREAS, Marsha Chun became a member of Kuini Pi‘olani Hawaiian Civic Club in honor of her mother-in-law, the late Rev. Ida Keali‘iokalani Hanapī Chun; and

WHEREAS, Marsha and her husband Riley were well-known for her culinary talents with ability to create and cater meals that many enjoyed; and

WHEREAS, Marsha Chun’s love for Akua led her to a pathway to become ordained a Kahu Ha‘i ‘Euanelio of the Ka Makua Mau Loa Church, and was a dedicated servant of Ke Akua; and

WHEREAS, Ke Akua in his infinite wisdom called home his beloved daughter on November 7, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Rev. Marsha Chun will be sorely missed, however, her legacy as a Kahu Ha‘i ‘Euanelio, kupuna, mother and grandmother will live on because of her excellence in the way she shared her love and knowledge.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 61st Annual Convention held online, in the malama of Makali‘i and the rising of ʻOle Kū Kolu, this 22nd day of November 2020, remembering beloved wife and mother, Rev. Marsha Ann Octavio Chun; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to Riley Chun, Ka Makua Mau Loa Church, Charlene Puanani Hayashi, the Kuini Pi‘olani Hawaiian Civic Club, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned herby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Makaliʻi and the rising of ʻOlekūkolu on the 22nd day of November 2020, at the 61st Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs held online.
