ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION 

No. 2019 – 34

REMEMBERING THE WONDERFUL AND AWESOME LIFE OF KAPIOLANI DOLLY JOCELYN KU NAIWI AND RECOGNIZING, ACKNOWLEDGING, AND CONGRATULATING HER FOR MANY YEARS OF SERVICE AND CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB MOVEMENT AND HER COMMUNITY

WHEREAS, Kapiolani Dolly Jocelyn Ku Naiwi was born on November 5, 1949, to the parents of Jacob Paul Kauiaa Ku and Emma Maele Kapowai Ku in Honolulu, Hawai‘i; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani was the youngest and only daughter of six siblings; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani was married to her awesome husband, Lincoln Philip Naiwi, Sr. of Wai‘anae, O‘ahu; and

WHEREAS, together this awesome couple have six children, four daughters by the names Lena, Jaycine, Gwenevere and Nicole, and two sons by the names Lincoln Naiwi, Jr. and Marcus; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani was educated at ‘Aiea Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Farrington High School Class of 1967; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani, after raising her children, in 1994, had so much energy she ran for the State of Hawai‘i Board of Education and made it to the general elections, and although she did not win she kept moving forward and in 1995 became a permanent Educational Assistant at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School; and

WHEREAS, she enrolled at Leeward Community College and in 2005 she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani was an extraordinary and phenomenal woman that continued to serve her Nānāikapono Hawaiian Civic Club, the O‘ahu Council, and the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs, and she was currently the Immediate Past President of her Hawaiian Civic Club and numerous other responsibilities that she volunteered of herself unconditionally; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani’s domestic, personal, professional, and community service contributions began with being a committed wife, a dedicated mother, a hard-working individual that continued to remain loyal in being a community servant; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani was an accomplished facilitator with the proven ability to develop and implement programs that support school, student and parent involvement objectives, and she led key initiatives that increased student participation with Gradnite from 1991 to 2011, was President of Nānākuli Athletic Club from 1993 to 1996, served as HGEA Union Shop Steward from 1995 to 2017 at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School, she was also an officer for many years on Nānākuli High and Intermediate School Community Council and after 23 years working as an Educational Assistant at Nānākuli High and Intermediate School she quietly retired; and

WHEREAS, Kapiolani Dolly Jocelyn Ku Naiwi journeyed through this life on October 4, 2019, quietly and peacefully at The Queen’s Medical Center – West O‘ahu, “a hui hou.”

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 60th Annual Convention in Lahaina, Maui, in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau, this 16th day of November 2019, remembering the wonderful and awesome life of Kapiolani Dolly Jocelyn Ku Naiwi and recognizing, acknowledging, and congratulating her for many years of service and contributions to the Hawaiian Civic Club movement and her community; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the ‘ohana of Kapiolani Dolly Jocelyn Ku Naiwi, Immediate-Past President of Nānāikapono Hawaiian Civic Club, Jaycine Hicks, President of Nānāikapono Hawaiian Civic Club, Darin Pilialoha, Principal of Nānākuli High and Intermediate School,  as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House subject matter committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Welehu and the rising of Lāʻau Pau on the 16th day of November 2019, at the 60th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Lahaina, Maui.
