ASSOCIATION OF HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBS

A RESOLUTION

No. 2018 – 6

REMEMBERING AND HONORING THE LIFE OF BLACE AH KUI LAN VALENZUELA

WHEREAS, Blace Ah Kui Lan was born on March 12, 1960, to Sylvester and the late Libby Naihe Paalua of Kohala, Moku Keawe; and

WHEREAS, Blace was taken home to Our Lord on March 12, 2018, and was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Carlos Valenzuela; and

WHEREAS, Blace and Edwin are survived by sons Jentzen and Edwin (Kanoe Conte) of Hawi, and also by daughters Kimi (Sione) Vakauta of Hala‘ula, and Mei Ling (Paulo) Sauta of Kapa‘au, hānai daughter Tiffany Kupukaa of Kohala; and

WHEREAS, Blace is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kayden, Ben, Keale, Tamatasi, Keti, Sioeli, Makamae, Nafanua and Baby Valenzuela-Conti; and

WHEREAS, Blace is survived by her father, Sylvester Paalua, Jr. of Kawaihae, a brother Ryder (Darcy) Paalua of Kailua-Kona, by sisters Sylvia Okubo of Kawaihae, Colleen (Scott) Henne, Elsie (Eric) Dela Cruz of Kohala, Jan and Mui Lan Paalua of Kawaihae; and

WHEREAS, Blace was employed by the Waikōloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa as a bell clerk with many friends and co-workers, she was a member of the Kalāhikiola Congregational Church at ‘Iole, Kohala and sang in the church choir, and she was member of Hālau Kawehileimamoikawēkiu o Kohala; and

WHEREAS, Blace was very caring and giving, she battled cancer, and she had strong roots in her church; and

WHEREAS, her Bible verse, Psalm 28:7, reads: “the Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise Him.”

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs at its 59th Annual Convention in Kalapaki, Kauaʻi, in the malama of Welehu and the rising of ʻOlepau, this 17th day of November 2018, remembering and honoring the lift of Blace Ah Kui Lan Valenzuela; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a certified copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Kohala Hawaiian Civic Club, Jentzen Valenzuela, as well as the Governor of the State of Hawai‘i, President of the State Senate, Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Chair of the State Senate Committee on Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the State House Committee on Ocean, Marine Resources & Hawaiian Affairs, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and all County Mayors.

The undersigned hereby certifies that the foregoing Resolution was duly adopted in the malama of Welehu and the rising of ‘Olepau on the 17th day of November 2018, at the 59th Annual Convention of the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs in Kalapaki, Kaua‘i.
